Electric and Hybrid Cars Footscray and Melton

Electric and Hybrid Cars in Footscray and Melton, Melbourne

Most of the brands we sell now have an electric or hybrid model. This page explains the three main types in plain English and shows which of our dealerships sell them. Models listed are those on each manufacturer's Australian website as at 17 October 2026.

Hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric?

  • Hybrid (HEV): a petrol engine plus a small battery and electric motor. It charges itself as you drive. You never plug it in, and it uses less fuel in stop-start traffic.
  • Plug-in hybrid (PHEV): a bigger battery you charge at home or at a public charger, plus a petrol engine. Short daily trips can be done on electricity alone, and the engine takes over on longer drives.
  • Electric (EV): battery only, no petrol. You charge at home, at work or at public chargers. There are no oil changes, and running costs are usually lower.

Which one suits you?

If you can charge at home and most trips are short, an EV or PHEV usually costs the least to run. If you can't charge at home, or you often drive long distances, a hybrid is the simplest change from petrol. If you tow, ask us about towing capacity, because it differs a lot between models.
