Best Family SUVs and 7-Seaters in Melbourne: A Buyer's Guide

Choosing a Family SUV or 7-Seater

Whether you need room for a pram, sport gear or grandparents, the right family car makes daily life easier. Here is what to think about.

Five seats or seven?

If you only need the third row occasionally, a mid-size SUV with a 5+2 layout may do. If you will use all seats every day, look at a large SUV or a people mover with proper adult-size third-row room and air vents.

Safety

Check the ANCAP rating and the date it was awarded, plus features such as autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and curtain airbags that reach the third row.

Child seats

Count the ISOFIX and top-tether points. Bring your child seats to the test drive and fit them.

Hybrid, plug-in or electric

Hybrids save fuel in stop-start traffic, plug-in hybrids can do the school run on electricity, and EVs are cheapest to run if you can charge at home. Read our electric and hybrid guide.
